I did just remember that we extended it to cover "simply contiguous" 
higher-rank targets as well. So if one has a dummy that 
is "DIMENSION(..), CONTIGUOUS", one can point a higher-rank pointer to 
it. But that is completely different from "SELECT RANK", which safely 
executes code for the appropriate rank, rather than providing a 
different rank view of a block of contiguous data (remapping).
